CSU Placement Testing:

Hoping to be headed to CSU in the fall? Have you checked whether you need to take the placement tests? If you don't know your EAP scores you can find them online at http://www.csumathsuccess.org/eap_results. Placement test deadlines vary by campus. Make sure you take any necessary tests before your earliest deadline. If you miss the deadline they will rescind your offer!

Exemptions to DVC Testing

English 116/118  If you have completed either English 116 or 118 and passed with a C or better then you will only need to take one portion of the English Assessment test. For example, if you completed English 116 then you have already met the Reading Comprehension prerequisite so you will only need to take the Writing section of the test.  The opposite is also true; if you completed English 118 then you have already met the Writing prerequisite so you will only need to take the Reading Comprehension section of the test.

DVC English Assessment Re-test  If you have taken the English Assessment test at DVC within the last two years and you placed into English 122 on either the Reading Comprehension or the Writing portion of the test on your first attempt then you would only need to re-take the portion in which you didn't place.

Tests taken at other schools  If you have taken a placement test at another California Community College within the last two years you can use those scores for placement into DVC classes. Bring in a copy of your official score report, or have the school fax it to us directly, to be evaluated. We do not accept scores from UCs, CSUs, private or out-of-state schools.

Classes taken at other schools  If you believe that you have taken a class at another institution that would satisfy a prerequisite please forward your transcripts and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions office.

Tests taken at LMC or CCC  If you took your placement test at either Los Medanos College or Contra Costa College within the last two years we can look up your scores and translate them for you.  Just send us an email with your full name & student ID number and your request, or drop by the center with your photo ID.  Your scores will be available on WebAdvisor within 1 business day.

AP Scores  If you took the English Literature or Language Advanced Placement (AP) exam and scored a three or higher you may submit your scores and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions office in lieu of testing the English Assessment test.

If you took the Calculus AB or BC Advanced Placement (AP) exam and scored a three or higher you may submit your scores and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions office in lieu of testing the College Level Math.

High School Math Classes  If you completed Algebra II or higher in high school and received a grade of C or better for the year you may submit your transcripts and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions office. At that time they will determine whether your course work can be used for placement into DVC classes.

EAP  Passing the English and/or the math portion of the EAP can be used for placement into courses. Send the results to our office and we will post them to your account. Results are only valid for one year following graduation from high school.
